Cultists attack Lobi Stars players over poor run of results

An unidentified group of assailants believed to be cultists in Makurdi reportedly attacked players of Nigeria Premier Football League side Lobi Stars over the weekend.

A credible source says while the staff of the club were left untouched, players ran into the team bus for safety.

According to the source, the attack took place on Sunday evening.

The assailants also threatened to kill senior players of the club if seen on the streets of Benue State capital – Makurdi.

The management of the club is yet to make a statement on the matter as of the filing of this report.

Lobi Stars, after over three managerial changes this season, are on a terrible run of form in the League.

The Pride of Benue is on a 13-game winless run in the league and five consecutive losses.

Lobi Stars last won a game in the Nigeria Premier Football League in December 2024 – a 1-0 win over Plateau United.

Since the reappointment of Mohammed Babaganaru in February, Lobi Stars are yet to win as they sit bottom of the log with 23 points after 30 matches.
