Newly crowned Premier League champions, Liverpool were held to a 2-2 draw by a determined Arsenal side, who fought back from a two-goal deficit in a thrilling encounter at Anfield.
Liverpool started the match strongly, taking the lead in the 19th minute when Cody Gakpo headed in Andrew Robertson’s cross. Just a minute later, Luis Díaz doubled the advantage with a close-range finish, capitalizing on Dominik Szoboszlai’s assist.
Despite the early setback, Arsenal responded after halftime. Gabriel Martinelli reduced the deficit in the 46th minute with a well-placed header.
The Gunners continued to press and were rewarded in the 70th minute when Mikel Merino equalized, scoring on a rebound after Martin Ødegaard’s powerful shot was parried.
However, Arsenal’s momentum was halted in the 79th minute when Merino received a red card for a tackle on Szoboszlai, leaving the visitors with ten men.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, Arsenal held firm, and Ødegaard nearly secured a dramatic winner in stoppage time, narrowly missing the target.
The draw leaves Liverpool with 83 points, having already secured the Premier League title. Arsenal remain second with 68 points, continuing their pursuit of a top-five finish and Champions League qualification for next season.
