Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta has emphatically stated that his team will not abandon their pursuit of the Premier League title, despite trailing league leaders Liverpool by 11 points.
Following a recent 1-0 defeat to West Ham United, Arteta declared, “Over my dead body,” when asked if Arsenal would concede the title race.
The Gunners have faced significant challenges this season, including injuries to key players such as Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Martinelli, as well as disciplinary issues leading to five red cards.
Despite these setbacks, Arsenal remains in contention, sitting six points ahead of Nottingham Forest and maintaining a game in hand over Liverpool.
Arteta highlighted the team’s resilience, noting that prior to the West Ham defeat, Arsenal had matched Liverpool in points over the previous 15 matches.
He emphasized the importance of fighting for every point, stating that as long as it’s mathematically possible, the team will strive to close the gap.
Looking ahead, Arsenal is preparing for a crucial match against third-placed Nottingham Forest. Arteta remains optimistic, focusing on the team’s ambition and the need for consistency in the remaining fixtures.
He also addressed the club’s ongoing search for a new sporting director following Edu’s departure, praising interim director Jason Ayto’s contributions and expressing confidence in the club’s future decisions.
