Paulo Curbasi, being the last man in defense brought down Julliano Simoeone who was heading towards goal.
Atletico Madrid started the tie on the back foot as they were forced to defend deep against Marcus Rashford Lamine, Robert Lewandowski and Yamal, who came close to scoring.
A few minutes after Curbasi’s red card, Julian Alvarez stepped up and buried a sublime free-kick into the top corner to give Atletico Madrid the lead.
Alexander Sorloth came off the bench and sealed the win for Diego Simeone’s men in the 70th minute to seal an important win towards reaching the semis for the first time since 2017.
