Bayern Munich topple Madrid at the Bernabeu in Champions League semi-finals first leg
Bayern Munich have put themselves in pole position to qualify for the semi-finals of this season’s Champions League.
Although the advantage is somewhat slim, given the result on the night, the Bavarians are in a position to round off the tie in the second leg.
The Perennial German champions picked up a 2-1 win at the Santiago Bernabeu with goals from Luis Diaz and Harry Kane.
Bayer Munich went into the heavyweight clash looking for their first win over the hosts since 2001.
While for Real Madrid, it was another episode of not knowing what to expect from Arbeloa’s given the inconsistent performances since he took over.
Nevertheless, the hosts started the tie creating the better chances in the first half. Legendary goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer had a busy first 45 as he denied Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr on three occasions
With a few minutes to the break, former Liverpool forward, Luis Diaz put Bayern Munich ahead as he fired from close range off Swrge Nasri’s pass.
Harry Kane doubled the lead with a shit from the edge of the box a minute after resumption from Michael Olise’s pass.
After a bit of toiling, Kylian Mbappe scored a consolation in the 75th minute to make the scoreline 2-1.
Bayer Munich hold a slender advantage as they look to beat Madrid.
