Betis makes history, reaches first European final after dramatic win over Fiorentina

In a night that will be etched in the annals of Real Betis history, the Spanish club secured its first-ever European final berth by overcoming Fiorentina 4–3 on aggregate in the UEFA Conference League semifinals.

The decisive second leg, held at Florence’s Stadio Artemio Franchi, ended in a thrilling 2–2 draw after extra time, propelling Betis to the final.

Betis entered the match with a 2–1 advantage from the first leg. Brazilian winger Antony, on loan from Manchester United, extended their lead with a stunning free-kick, marking his eighth goal in 20 appearances for the club.

Fiorentina responded with two headers from Robin Gosens, leveling the aggregate score and pushing the match into extra time.

In the extra period, Ez Abde netted the decisive goal for Betis, capitalizing on a cross from Antony. The Moroccan forward’s strike ensured a historic victory for the Andalusian side.

The final is scheduled for May 28, 2025, at the Wrocław Stadium in Poland, where Betis will face English side, Chelsea. Both clubs are making their debut appearances in a European final, setting the stage for a historic showdown.
