Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso has revealed that Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface could make his long-awaited return to action this weekend against RB Leipzig.
Boniface has been sidelined since November with a thigh injury, missing 12 games in the process. Although he returned to training before the Christmas break, a setback delayed his comeback.
The 24-year-old striker finally returned to the bench in mid-week for the UEFA Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid but did not play.
When asked if Boniface would play against Leipzig, Alonso responded, “Yes. We’ll see, but he’s in the squad.”
Alonso is under no pressure to rush Boniface back into the starting lineup, thanks to the fine form of Patrik Schick.
The Czech star has contributed an impressive eight goals in his last seven games, ensuring that Boniface will have to work his way back into the team.
