Rodrygo Goes is very likely to miss the 2026 FIFA World Cup this summer in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The Real Madrid forward is reportedly among the forwards guaranteed by coach Carlo Ancelotti to make Brazil’s final squad for the tournament.
Unfortunately, the 25-year-old is now unlikely to be selected after picking up an injury to his cruciate ligament.
Real Madrid confirmed the development in a statement via its official website on Tuesday afternoon.
“After the tests carried out today on our player Rodrygo by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament and a torn external meniscus in his right leg.”
Rodrygo has featured in 26 matches for Real Madrid so far this season, scoring three goals and providing four assists across all competitions.
The forward featured for Real Madrid on Monday night as Getafe recorded a famous win at the Santiago Bernabeu, ending an eighteen-year wait.
Rodrygo is set to be on the sidelines for close to six months, which makes his availability for the World Cup in doubt.
