Brighton and Hove Albion extended Chelsea’s poor run of form on Tuesday night as the Seagulls tore the Blues apart at the Amex Stadium.
The Blues had endured a five-game losing streak in the league and needed a reaction following Saturday’s loss to Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.
However, Liam Rosenoir’s side got run over by a Brighton side looking to sneak into the European spots with five matches to go.
Turkish defender Ferdi Kadioglu pounced on a rebound to give Brighton the lead after three minutes.
Roberts Sanchez had earlier saved Kaoru Mitoma’s effort at goal before Kadioglu latched on to the rebound.
The Spanish goalkeeper was called to action in the 15th minute as he parried Jan Paul van Hecke’s goal-bound header away.
Jack Hinshelwood doubled the lead for the host a few minutes into the second half with a strike from the edge of the box.
Chelsea struggled to create a shot on target in the match as Brighton toyed and tossed the visitors about in a one-sided affair.
Danny Welbeck bagged his 13th league of the season in added time of the 90 as Brighton wrapped a convincing and commanding win over Chelsea.
The result helped Brighton topple Chelsea as they move to the sixth spot with 50 points while Chelsea are two points behind in seventh.
