Atalanta maintained their top spot in Serie A with a hard-fought win over Empoli, thanks in part to the heroics of Ademola Lookman.
The winger, fresh from his CAF Player of the Year award win, returned to the starting lineup and made an immediate impact.
Despite conceding the opening goal to Lorenzo Colombo, Atalanta responded swiftly with Charles De Ketelaere’s equalizing header. Lookman then gave his side the lead just before halftime, poking home a cross in the penalty area.
Empoli drew level early in the second half through Sebastiano Esposito’s penalty, but Atalanta continued to push forward. Their efforts were rewarded thanks to De Ketelaere’s late strike to secure all three points.
Lookman’s influence was evident throughout the match, and his return to the lineup proved crucial in Atalanta’s victory.
