Celtic Legends staged a thrilling comeback to defeat Manchester United Legends on penalties at Celtic Park, in a charity match that had fans on their feet from start to finish.
United looked in complete control during the first half, with Darren Fletcher striking first before Dimitar Berbatov produced a trademark finish into the top corner to make it 2–0 before the interval.
The momentum shifted after the break as Celtic rolled back the years. Scott McDonald gave the hosts hope with a stunning strike into the top corner, and Shaun Maloney’s late equaliser ensured the game would be decided from the spot.
The drama carried into the penalty shootout, where Artur Boruc denied Tyler Blackett, and Darren Gibson failed to convert for United. Although Joe Hart saw his own effort saved, Celtic kept their composure with Lee Naylor, Scott McDonald, Charlie Mulgrew and Simon Donnelly all finding the net, Naylor delivering the decisive kick to seal a 4–3 win.
More than 22,000 fans turned up to celebrate the occasion, which raised vital funds for both the Manchester United Foundation and Celtic FC Foundation’s community projects.
The night also carried symbolic weight off the pitch, with Boruc drawing attention after donning a Palestinian football top, a gesture warmly received by sections of the home support. The event blended nostalgia, rivalry and purpose, leaving the crowd with memories of another classic Celtic Park night.
