Napoli dominated the first half, scoring two goals in the opening 20 minutes through Matteo Politano and Romelu Lukaku.
Samuel Chukwueze, fresh from starting for Nigeria in their World Cup qualifiers, began the match on the bench for Milan, perhaps due to fatigue. He came on in the second half to minimal effect as chances were few and far between.
In the second half, Napoli maintained control, but a late lapse in concentration allowed AC Milan to pull a goal back. Luka Jovic scored in the 84th minute, capitalizing on a precise pass into the box to make it 2-1.
Despite a late surge from the visitors, Napoli held on to secure the three points and keep the pressure on Inter Milan.
