Nigeria Women’s Cricket Under-19 team, the Junior Yellow Greens recorded a great feat at the ongoing T20 World Cup in Malaysia.

The Junior Yellow Greens marked their debut in the competition with a win over one of the tournament favorites, New Zealand.

Captain of the side, Piety Lucky, was awarded Player of the Match as Nigeria recorded its first-ever win in the history of the competition.

The Nigerian ladies defeated New Zealand by two runs in a quite keenly contested match on Monday morning.

The Junior Yellow Greens were meant to play Samoa in their opening fixture but were abandoned due to heavy downpours.

Nigeria qualified for the tournament for the first time by a stroke of luck.

Heavy rainfall during the qualifiers disrupted the final between the Yellow Greens and Zimbabwe in Rwanda.

However, having defeated Zimbabwe earlier in the group stage, Nigeria were awarded winners of the qualification series which granted them their first-ever appearance at the Under-19 Women’s Cricket World Cup.

The junior Yellow Greens will take on South Africa on Wednesday in their second group match.
