The debate over who is the greatest footballer of all time has been reignited, thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent claim that he holds the top spot.
However, not everyone agrees with the Portuguese legend. Among those who disagree is Brazilian icon Ronaldo Nazario, who has weighed in on the discussion.
Speaking to ESPN, Ronaldo Nazario praised Cristiano Ronaldo’s impressive career but stopped short of calling him the greatest.
“I don’t really like to get into this. I think people have too much self-esteem. I prefer people to talk about what I did and who I was rather than talking about myself,” he said.
“Cristiano Ronaldo has a fantastic story. He won everything and scored goals in every possible way. He is definitely among the best in history.

“Now, I don’t agree with the best. But I respect his opinion… I would say he is easily in the top 10.”
So, who does Ronaldo Nazario think is the greatest? According to him, it’s a three-way tie for the top spot. “Pele is number one without a doubt. Messi and Maradona are tied,” he said.
As for the remaining seven spots in his top 10, Ronaldo Nazario listed a who’s who of football legends, including Zico, Romario, Cristiano Ronaldo, Van Basten, Zidane, Figo, Rivaldo, and Ronaldinho Gaucho.
