Curaçao marked their World Cup debut on a disappointing note, suffering an excruciating 6-1 loss to four-time champions Germany.
However, the Island nation won’t care about the result but the goal they scored on their debut appearance at the World stage.
Against all odds, Curaçao showed bravery and determination in the early exchanges and got rewarded after Felix Nmecha’s fifth-minute opener in Texas.
Germany’s lead lasted for the last fifteen minutes as FC Zurich midfielder Livano Comenencia wrote his name in the history books of the country and the competition.
Comenencia pounced on a loose ball in the box and placed a left-footed shot behind the reach of 40-year-old Neuer to restore parity just before the cooling break.
Curaçao fans went wild inside the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Houston Texas as they celebrated their team’s first-ever goal at the World Cup on their debut appearance.
However, Germany turned on the heat in the debutants as they went on a rampage scoring six consecutive goals.
The match ended 7-1 as Germany kick-started their World Cup campaign on a brilliant note in Texas.
