Rangers were held to a 2-2 draw against St Mirren in Paisley this afternoon, with Cyriel Dessers playing a key role in the first post-split Scottish Premiership fixture.
Dessers looked sharp from the start, testing St Mirren goalkeeper Zach Hemming early with a powerful strike at the near post.
The Nigerian forward continued to threaten and came close again after a clever pass from Mohamed Diomande, but his shot sailed over the bar.
Persistence paid off just before half-time when Dessers opened the scoring with his 24th goal of the season. Nico Raskin picked him out in the box, and Dessers showed great strength to turn his marker before calmly finishing low into the bottom corner.
However, Rangers’ lead was short-lived, with St Mirren equalising moments later through Mark O’Hara after a long throw caused chaos in the box.
Early in the second half, Rangers regained the lead thanks to Raskin, but once again St Mirren fought back, with Conor McMenamin tapping home to level the game. Dessers was later replaced by Vaclav Cerny as Barry Ferguson sought a winner.
Despite Rangers pushing late on, they had to settle for a point, with Dessers’ first-half strike one of the highlights on a frustrating afternoon.
