A Brescia fan will not be allowed into any stadium in Italy for the next five years after he was found guilty of racially abusing Nigerian midfielder Ebenezer Akinsanmiro.
The incident happened in a Serie B Match between Brescia and Sampdoria on January 12 at the Stadio Mario Rigamonti.
According to findings, the fan called Akinsanmiro a “Monkey” after Massimo Coda gave Sampdoria the lead after 20 minutes of action.
Also, some of the home fans chanted racial slurs at the Nigerian midfielder during the match.
Akinsanmiro gestured back at the fans in mockery of their chants at him.
Inter Milan and Sampdoria showed support for the midfielder in reaction to the incident.
Incidentally, some of the home fans reported the incident to the authorities who investigated and issued the fan a “Daspo” – a preventive stadium ban that disallows individuals from attending matches.
Ebenezer Akinsanmiro is an Inter Milan player on loan at Sampdoria and is enjoying regular game time with 25 appearances this season.
The 20-year-old midfielder joined Inter Milan in 2023 from Remo Stars’ academy Beyond Limits.
Akinsamiro has Serie A, Coppa Italia, and Super Cup-winning medals with Inter Milan since his arrival.
