The Nigeria Premier Football League served up a tightly contested set of fixtures today, with several narrow scorelines and hard-fought draws across the country.
Shooting Stars edged past Plateau United in Ibadan with a slender 1-0 victory. The hosts dominated possession for large spells but had to remain patient before finally breaking the deadlock midway in stoppage time of the second half through a diving header by Ismail Ayodele to secure all three points.
In Kano, 10-man Barau FC were left frustrated after falling 1-0 at home to Warri Wolves with Justus Ohanu scoring what turned out to be the only goal of the game in the 28th minute.
Wolves defended resolutely thereafter, ensuring the home side were unable to respond and running down the clock to claim a valuable away win.
Niger Tornadoes and Kun Khalifat played out a 1-1 draw in Minna. The home side struck first on the stroke of halftime, with the visitors responding in the 81st minute with a well-worked equaliser. Both sides pushed for a winner late on, yet neither could find the breakthrough.
In Ilorin, Kwara United slipped to a disappointing 1-0 defeat against Abia Warriors. A defensive lapse early in the second half proved costly for the home side, as they conceded a penalty which was converted by Emeka Obioma.
The standout fixture of the day, Enyimba vs Rivers United, ended goalless in Aba. Expected to be an attacking showcase between two NPFL giants, the contest turned into a tactical battle marked by discipline over flair. Clear-cut chances were scarce, and both goalkeepers were rarely tested.
In Yenagoa, Bayelsa United were held to a 1-1 draw by Ikorodu City. The hosts took the lead through a well-timed header from a corner, but Ikorodu City refused to fold and levelled from midfield pressure late in the second half through Tosin Oyedokun.
