FA Cup Fourth Round: City and Liverpool with Commanding victory

The magic of the FA Cup was on full display on Saturday as fourth-round fixtures across the country produced shocks and dominant victories.

Premier League sides were largely expected to assert control, but lower-league opposition once again proved why the competition remains unpredictable. While some favourites progressed comfortably, others were pushed to their limits, and a few fell victim to spirited underdog performances.

From Manchester to Anfield, and from Turf Moor to Villa Park, the day delivered the full spectrum of cup football, early goals, late drama, decisive moments, and standout individual displays.

Manchester City Cruise Past Salford

Manchester City secured a routine 2–0 victory over Salford City at the Etihad Stadium.

City’s breakthrough arrived early via an unfortunate own goal from Alfie Dorrington, settling any nerves. Pep Guardiola’s side controlled possession throughout, dictating the tempo with minimal resistance from the visitors.

Marc Guehi added the second late in the contest, sealing a professional performance and ensuring City’s smooth passage into the fifth round.

Mansfield Town Stun Burnley

One of the day’s biggest surprises unfolded at Turf Moor, where Mansfield Town defeated Burnley 2–1.

The League One side delivered a fearless display, taking advantage of defensive lapses to secure a memorable cup upset. Rhys Oates opened the scoring before Louis Reed doubled their advantage.

Burnley responded but could not find an equaliser, as Mansfield held firm to complete a result that epitomised the FA Cup’s enduring unpredictability.

West Ham Survive Extra-Time Battle

West Ham United needed extra time to edge past Burton Albion 1–0.

Despite dominating spells of the match, the Premier League side struggled to break down Burton’s disciplined defence. The deadlock was eventually broken by Crysencio Summerville, whose goal proved decisive.

Reduced to ten men late on, West Ham nevertheless held their composure to progress.

Newcastle Fight Back at Villa Park

Newcastle United came from behind to defeat Aston Villa 3–1.

Villa struck first through Tammy Abraham, but Newcastle responded emphatically. Sandro Tonali netted twice to swing the tie in Newcastle’s favour before Nick Woltemade added a late third.

The visitors’ resilience and attacking sharpness proved decisive in a high-intensity encounter.

Liverpool Shine Under Anfield Lights

FA Cup liver match

At Anfield, Liverpool secured a confident 3–0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion.

Curtis Jones opened the scoring, setting the tone for Liverpool’s controlled display. Dominik Szoboszlai extended the lead before Mohamed Salah sealed the result.

Liverpool’s attacking quality ensured a comfortable evening for the home side.
