Former Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has urged the club to pull out all the stops to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s highly coveted midfielder Florian Wirtz this summer.
Wirtz has been on the radar of several top European clubs, including Real Madrid, Liverpool, Barcelona, and Manchester City.
However, Rummenigge believes Bayern Munich should prioritize signing the 21-year-old German international, as a potential game-changing transfer.
“Everyone in FC Bayern agrees that he is exactly the player we want to recruit,” Rummenigge said in an interview with the club’s website.
“Not to weaken Leverkusen, but to strengthen us.”
With Wirtz’s contract running until summer 2027, Bayern Munich may need to break the bank to secure his services, and there is an expectation that the 21-year-old will leave this summer.
Xabi Alonso is also linked with a summer exit, and the likes of Jeremie Frimpong and Victor Boniface are also expected to depart.
