Football weekends are certainly the best weekends and this one was no different. The Premier League action began with Chelsea against West Ham at the London Stadium. The Blues ran out 3-0 winners thanks to a brace from the much-improved Nicolas Jackson and a fine finish from Cole Palmer to seal the deal.
Elsewhere, Liverpool hammered Bournemouth 3-0 at Anfield – the perfect response after losing to Nottingham Forest last weekend. Aston Villa came from a goal down to beat Wolves 3-1 and continue their impressive start to the season, while Newcastle’s inconsistent campaign continued as they suffered a 3-1 loss to a rampant Fulham.
Saturday’s Premier League action finished on a rather underwhelming note, as Manchester United struggled against Crystal Palace, playing out a goalless draw despite dominating proceedings. Palace keeper and ex-Red Devil, Dean Henderson was in rare form, stopping Bruno Fernandes, Alejandro Garnacho, and Zirkzee from breaking the deadlock.
In Germany, Bayern Munich made it 20 goals in their last 3 games when they defeated Werder Bremen 5-0. Michael Olise scored twice and set up two more, while Harry Kane continued his red-hot form with a goal. Things weren’t so rosy for PSG over in France as the Ligue 1 champions played out a 1-1 draw with Reims. Marseille could go top with a win against Lyon on Sunday night.
The big game in Italy failed to live up to its billing as Juventus and Antonio Conte’s Napoli settled for a goalless draw in Turin. Both sides had chances to score but in the end, a draw was probably the fair result.
Finally, Kylian Mbappe inspired Real Madrid to a 4-1 win over Espanyol.
