Nigeria’s Super Eagles revived their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying hopes with a 2-0 win over Rwanda’s Amavubi at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.
The victory, secured through Victor Osimhen’s first-half brace, marked Nigeria’s first-ever win on Rwandan soil. It was a must-win game and the Galatasaray goal-machine delivered the goods.
Reacting to the win, Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle praised his team’s performance, saying:
“It was a difficult game; Rwanda have a great team. I am proud of my players’ performance.”
Chelle also highlighted the team’s limited preparation time, noting:
“We worked a lot within the few days. We had just two full training sessions.”
The French-Malian coach was pleased with his team’s second-half display, adding: “We kept the ball well in the second half—good performance from my guys (players).”
The win moves Nigeria to fourth position in Group C with six points from five games.
