Manchester City beat Coventry City 1-0 at the Etihad Stadium. Erling Haaland met a powerful Antoine Semenyo cross in the 25th minute and headed home the winner. The goal marked the 300th of his club career, reached at just 26 years old.
Crystal Palace produced the standout result of the afternoon, fighting back twice to beat Fulham 3-2 at Craven Cottage. Tyrick Mitchell levelled for Palace after Fulham’s early opener, and Cesar Palacios then scored his first goal for the club to put the visitors back in front. Palace struck again late on to complete the turnaround.
The remaining three 3pm fixtures all finished level. Brentford and Sunderland drew 1-1, and Brighton and Leeds United shared the points by the same scoreline at the Amex Stadium. Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur played out a goalless draw at the City Ground.
Saturday’s programme began with Newcastle United hosting Bournemouth at 12:30 pm. Hull City close out the day against Aston Villa in the evening kick-off as the Tigers look to extend their dream start to the season.
Haaland’s landmark goal extends his remarkable scoring rate in the Premier League and keeps City in the title conversation early in the season. Palace’s win, meanwhile, shows Oliver Glasner’s side can grind out results even from behind.
Attention turns to Sunday, when Everton host Manchester United and Arsenal welcome Chelsea. Both games carry real early-season weight.
