Lille manager Bruno Genesio has urged Chuba Akpom to keep working hard despite his impressive goalscoring debut for the club.
Akpom scored in Lille’s 2-1 home defeat to Le Havre at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Saturday night.
Akpom became the fourth Nigerian to score on his Ligue 1 debut, following in the footsteps of Moses Simon, Victor Osimhen, and Terem Moffi.
Genesio praised Akpom’s opportunistic goal but emphasized the need for him to adapt to the team’s principles. “Scoring is always a good sign for a striker. Chuba was opportunistic in this action. He is a player who still has to find his feet with us,” he told the club’s official website.
“He still has to assimilate certain principles and what is asked of him here. It is good that he scored, it can only increase his confidence and bring us something extra for the end of the season.”
With this challenge, Akpom will look to build on his debut goal and help Lille improve their performance in the league.
