Didier Drogba, in an empathetic letter to Galatasaray, has told the club that his former coach Jose Mourinho is not a racist.

Jose Mourinho came under heavy criticism after he accused Galatasaray substitutes of jumping like monkeys in reaction to a penalty call the referee waved off during Monday night’s Istanbul derby.

Galatasaray in reaction accused Mourinho of constantly disrespecting Turkish people since he arrived at Fenerbahçe.

Consequently, the Turkish announced plans to report the Portuguese manager for allegedly racially abusing its players.

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen also reacted to Mourinho’s comments via an Instagram post on Tuesday.

However, Didier Drogba, in his letter to the club, says he has known Morinho for many years and he is very far from being a racist.

Instead, he says Galatasaray should focus on winning the Turkish League this season as they currently lead by six points.

Drogba shared the letter to Galatasaray on his official X page on Wednesday.

You know how proud I was to wear the yellow and red jersey and my love for the most decorated club in Turkey!! We all know how passionate and heated rivalries can be, and I’ve been lucky enough to experience it. Ive seen the recent comments about Jose Mourinho. Trust me when I tell you I have known Jose for 25 years and he is not a racist and history (past and recent ) is there to prove it. Let’s focus on our games, support our brilliant lions and let’s win the league to get close to our 5 How can my “Dad” be a racist Come on guys

Didier Drogba played for Galatasaray between 2013 and 2014 where he won the Turkish League, Turkish Cup and Turkish Super Cup.

Drogba scored 20 goals in 53 appearances for Galatasaray during his stint at the club.

The Istanbul derby ended in a barren draw on Monday night as Galatasaray maintained their six-point lead over Morinho’s Fenerbahçe with less than 10 matches to go before the season ends.
