Super Eagles

The Super Eagles of Nigeria refused to let go of the Unity Cup as they beat the Reggae Boyz of Jamaica to retain their trophy.

It was quite an entertaining final at the Gtech Community Stadium as fans of both sides were treated to 90 minutes of pulsating action.

Moses Simon gave the Super Eagles an early lead in the match. The Nantes forward latched on to Nathan Tella’s cross to put the Super Eagles ahead.

However, the Jamaicans equalized about 90 seconds later.  Kaheim Dixon got to the end of a cross and tapped the ball into the net.

The first half ended a goal a piece with both sides creating chances to go ahead in the first encounter.

Samuel Chukwueze put the Super Eagles ahead again a few minutes into the second half with a well-placed shot into the bottom-right corner of goal.

Again, the three-time African champions failed to keep their lead as Jonathan Russell planted a powerful header into the roof of the net from a cross.

The match ended 2-2 in regular time and went into penalties.

Moses Simon, Kelechi Iheanacho, Tolu Arokodare scored their spot kicks.

Getafe midfielder, Chrisantus Uche had an impressive second half appearance. He capped it as he converted his penalty to help the Super Eagles retain the trophy they won in 2004.

The Super Eagles beat the Reggae Boyz 5-4 on penalties to win the 2025 edition of the Unity Cup.
