Enzo Fernández has revealed that it was always his dream to play for a club as big as Manchester City after completing his move from Chelsea on deadline day.
The Argentina international has signed a contract with City that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2031.
Fernández, 25, said he was delighted to make the move and described the transfer as an emotional moment for both himself and his family.
“I’m really happy to be here,” Fernández said in his first interview as a City player. “I always dreamed of being at a club as big as City.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity. It’s a very emotional moment for me and my family, to take this step at 25 years old, in a football career that I always dreamed of.
“I’m so happy to be here, enjoying these first few hours I’ve had at the club. I can already see just how big it is and we will enjoy ourselves and win lots of things together.”
Fernández also made clear that he had no hesitation when the opportunity to join City arrived, with the midfielder eager to work under former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca again.
He believes City’s history of success places a clear expectation on the squad to challenge for trophies in every competition.
“Manchester City have to win every trophy they compete for,” he said. “In every competition we play in, we have to compete and win, because this club’s history demands that.
“To be honest, from the first day they believed in me and called me to say they wanted me to join the club, I didn’t hesitate for a second.
“It’s a club that has won a lot in recent years. It’s a club that is making history in football and, for me, it’s a huge challenge.
“To be able to come here, help the club and keep winning things together, that has been my goal since they called me: to come to this club knowing we are going to win many trophies together.”
The midfielder now turns his attention to making an immediate impact on the pitch as he begins a new chapter of his career at Manchester City.
