Ikechukwu Uche (born 5 January 1984) is a former Nigerian professional footballer who played as a striker, renowned for his acrobatic goal celebrations.
He spent most of his career in Spain, playing for top LaLiga clubs including Recreativo, Getafe, Zaragoza, Villarreal, Granada, and Málaga, with 194 matches and 42 goals over nine seasons. Uche also represented Nigeria in two Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.
Ikechukwu Uche hails from Aba, a town in Nigeria’s eastern Abia state, where he’s part of a proud Igbo heritage. Football runs deep in his family – his brother Kalu Uche also had a successful career with the Super Eagles and LaLiga clubs.
Ikechukwu’s journey began with Amanze United in Abia state, followed by a year with Iwuanyanwo Nationale (now known as Heartland United). His big break came at just 18 when he made the move abroad to Racing Ferrol in 2002.

Club Career

Ikechukwu Uche’s career started in Nigeria with Amanze United and Iwuanyanwu Nationale. At 18, he moved to Spain’s second division with Racing de Ferrol. After a season, he joined Recreativo de Huelva for $300,000 and became the league’s top scorer in 2005-06 with 12 goals in 28 games. Uche’s success earned him a move to Getafe CF, where he scored eight goals in his first top-flight season.
In 2009, Uche joined Real Zaragoza but suffered a severe knee injury in his second match, sidelining him for seven months. He recovered but suffered another knee injury, keeping him out for six more months. Uche eventually returned to action and scored his first goal since 2009.
In 2011, Uche signed with Villarreal CF and was loaned to Granada CF. He scored the winning goal against Villarreal and later returned to the team, leading them in scoring as they returned to the top division in 2013. Uche’s highlights included a hat-trick against Rayo Vallecano.
In 2015, Uche joined Mexican side Tigres UANL but re-injured himself. He returned to Spain with Málaga CF and later signed with Gimnàstic de Tarragona, extending his contract until 2019.

Personal life
Ikechukwu Uche comes from a footballing family – his older brother, Kalu Uche, was also a forward who played mostly in Spain. Interestingly, their surname “Uche” means “God’s Power” in Igbo.
Aside from football, Uche has made appearances in the entertainment industry, including a cameo in J. Martins and DJ Arafat’s music video for “Touchin Body”.
In his personal life, Uche ended a 10-year courtship with Nigerian actress Uche Jumbo in 2011. There have been rumors of him dating Ruth Okoro, ex-wife of Ini Edo’s husband, but Uche hasn’t confirmed or denied the story.
