Ikorodu City are edging closer to securing a spot on the continent next season after a commanding display over former champions Kano Pillars.

The Oga Boys showed superiority over Ahmed Musa’s Pillars on Sunday evening at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos.

Both teams were desperate for a win to fuel their respective ambitions with four matches remaining in the season.

Ikorodu City were looking to close in on Enugu Rangers while Kano Pillars needed at least a point to move further away from the drop zone.

Joseph Arumala increased his goals tally to 12 as he gave the hosts the lead just before the half-hour mark.

Tosin Oyedokun and Ayodeji Abayomi compounded the woes of the Masu Gida in the second half to wrap up a 3-0 win.

Ikorodu City currently sits third on the log – a point off Enugu Rangers.

In other results, Enyimba rolled over Katsina United in Aba with a 3-0 win. The Aba Elephants are momentarily safe with three points off the relegation zone.

Meanwhile, Rivers United have their sights on the title as the Pride of Rivers secured a narrow win over Plateau United.

Wisdom Samuel’s opener in the 11th minute secured three points for Finidi George’s men as they go two points clear on the log.

Remo Stars are back in the drop zone after suffering a loss in Kano. The defending champions suffered a 2-1 loss to Barau FC and currently occupy the 19th spot.

With four matches left, the Sky Blue Stars find themselves in a tight spot to avoid relegation less than 10 months after winning a historic league title.
