Plymouth Argyle, the bottom club in England’s second tier defeated the mighty Liverpool 1-0 to advance to the FA CUP 5th round, and end Arne Slot’s quadruple dream.
This is one of the biggest upsets in the competition’s history and will leave a bitter taste in the mouths of Liverpool fans worldwide.
Plymouth took the lead early in the second half, courtesy of a penalty kick. A ball into the area cannoned off Harvey Elliott’s arms inside the area. Ryan Hardie made no mistake from the spot, giving his side a deserved lead.
Liverpool had a disjointed performance from start to finish. They lacked cohesion and failed to pose a significant threat, even with the introduction of Darwin Nunez off the bench.
Plymouth’s defense, led by Maksym Talovierov and Nikola Katic, put in a solid defensive performance, limiting Liverpool’s attacking opportunities.
It took until the final minutes of the tie for the Reds to muster more than a single shot on target.
Conor Hazard made two late saves to preserve the clean sheet, with Liverpool ultimately managing just three shots on target.
