Inter Milan registered their first win in four matches with an emphatic win over Roma at the San Siro on Sunday evening.
The reigning Serie A champions haven’t won a game in their previous four matches across two competitions but finally ended the streak.
Lisandro Martinez put the host ahead in the first minute of the tie as he buried the ball into the bottom corner from a pass inside the box.
Donyell Malen came close to restoring parity for Roma with a fine header but Yan Sommer leapt like a salmon to deny the flying Dutchman.
However, the Swiss goalkeeper had no answer for Gianluca Mancini, who equalised with a header five minutes before the half-time break.
Mancini’s celebration lasted for seven minutes as Turkish midfielder, Hakan Calhanoglu, in what could be the goal of the season, powered a ferocious shot into the top corner to give Inter Milan a 2-1 lead at the break.
The first half was only a prelude to the second as Inter Milan went ballistic against the visitors.
Lisandro Martinez got his brace while Nicolo Barella and Marcus Thuram who bagged the Man of the Match award, also got a bite of the cherry as the tie ended 5-2.
Inter Milan increased their lead at the top of the Serie A to nine points pending AC Milan’s trip to Naples on Easter Monday.
