Arsenal suffered their first Champions League defeat of the season, losing 1-0 to Inter Milan at the San Siro.
Arsenal’s unbeaten run in the Champions League came to an abrupt end with a harsh 1-0 loss to Inter Milan. The turning point arrived in first-half stoppage time when Mikel Merino was contentiously penalised for handball, enabling Hakan Calhanoğlu to convert from the spot.
Despite enjoying the lion’s share of possession, Arsenal struggled to find an equaliser.
Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz went close, but Inter’s backline held firm. The hosts then brought on big guns Marcus Thuram and Nicolo Barella to seal the victory.
Inter maintained their impressive unbeaten start (W3, D1) and secured their fourth consecutive clean sheet in the competition.
Meanwhile, the Gunners have now suffered three defeats in their last 6 games, as their season continues to go downhill.
Up next is a trip to Stamford Bridge and Arteta will be eager for his men to bounce back, in order to avoid three defeats on the spin.
