Former Chelsea midfielder, John Obi Mikel has expressed concerns over the club’s current attacking options, particularly focusing on striker Nicolas Jackson’s recent form.
Speaking on his podcast, “The Obi One Podcast,” Mikel emphasized that Jackson’s goal-scoring record may hinder Chelsea’s ambitions this season.
Mikel stated, “We are not clinical enough; he is not scoring enough goals. He puts himself in the right positions but then he’s not finishing.” He further commented, “He’s not a striker who’s going to get us to the top four or win us the Premier League title.”
In response to earlier critiques from Mikel, Jackson had previously retorted on social media, suggesting Mikel should “shut his mouth.” Addressing this, Mikel remarked, “Keep scoring and I’ll shut up.”
Mikel also highlighted the contributions of midfielder Cole Palmer, noting, “Without Cole Palmer I don’t know where we would’ve been this season; he’s carrying the team on his shoulders.”
As the January transfer window opens, Mikel has urged Chelsea to consider acquiring a top-tier striker to bolster their attacking options, mentioning players like Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres as potential targets.
Chelsea currently sits fourth in the Premier League, trailing leaders Liverpool by ten points, following a four-game winless streak.
