Welcome to a new episode of Nigerian goal poachers as we review how the players fared over the weekend.
Not a handful of top Nigerian players scored this past weekend, but Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman and Chidera Ejuke found the back of the net for their respective sides.
Alex Iwobi didn’t score but provided the assist to Raul Jimenez’s goal on Saturday as Fulham fell to a 2-1 defeat to Brighton at the Amex Stadium.
Ola Aina put out another impressive performance as he helped Nottingham Forest secure a 1-0 win over defending champions Manchester City in Saturday’s lunchtime kickoff.
Christy Ucheibe had an impressive outing in Benfica Feminino’s Taca De Liga triumph over Sporting Lisbon on Sunday evening.
Below are the standout performers of the week.
1. Victor Osimhen
The Super Eagles striker can’t just stop scoring. Osimhen found the back of the net in Galatasaray’s 2-1 win over Alanyaspor on Sunday. Osimhen scored the winner as the Turkish Champions came from a goal down to secure maximum points. The 26-year-old striker has 17 goals in the league this season and 23 in all competitions. Osimhen is just a goal behind Istanbul Basaksehir’s striker Krzysztof Piatek who leads the top scorers chart with 18 goals.
2. Ademola Lookman
The Atalanta forward scored his 13th league goal of the season as La Dea smashed Juventus 4-0 on Sunday night at the Allianz Stadium. Lokman scored the third goal from a solo run as Atalanta continued their title charge with an emphatic victory over a helpless Juventus in front of their home fans. Ademola Lookman has 18 goals across all competitions this season.
3. Chidera Ejuke
Ejuke scored his first goal of the year as he helped Sevilla secure a 1-0 win over Real Sociedad at the San Sebastian on Sunday evening. The Super Eagles winger scored a minute into the second half as Sevilla grabbed maximum points on the night. Ejuke has three goals and two assists in 23 matches for Sevilla this season.
4. Sadiq Umar
The Valencia forward scored the winner in Valencia’s 2-1 over Valladolid on Saturday evening at the Mestalla. The Super Eagles forward is enjoying a good start after he joined the club on loan from Real Sociedad in January. Sdiq Umar currently has five goals in 10 matches for Valencia. The 28-year-old is included in Eric Chelle’s 29-man provisional squad for the FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe later this month.
