Napoli delivered a commanding 3–0 victory over relegation-threatened Empoli at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Monday night, keeping their Serie A title aspirations alive.
Scott McTominay and Romelu Lukaku were instrumental in Napoli’s triumph. In the 18th minute, Lukaku battled free in midfield and passed to the onrushing McTominay, whose low long-range shot bounced over Empoli goalkeeper Devis Vasquez’s outstretched hand and into the corner of the net.
Lukaku then got his name of the scoresheet, doubling Napoli’s advantage in the 56th minute. Just five minutes later, he provided another assist with a right-wing cross that McTominay headed in for his second goal.
Despite missing key players such as Buongiorno (injured), Di Lorenzo, and Anguissa (both suspended), Napoli’s depth shone through. The only setback was the injury to defender Juan Jesus, who was substituted in the 72nd minute.
The win ensures Napoli remains just three points behind league leaders Inter Milan, who secured a 3–1 win against Cagliari over the weekend.
With six matches remaining, Napoli’s upcoming fixtures include Monza, Torino, Lecce, Genoa, Parma, and Cagliari. Meanwhile, Inter faces a challenging visit to Bologna. The title race remains intense as both teams vie for the Scudetto.
