Manchester City brush Sunderland aside to close gap on Arsenal as Buendia seals late win at Villa Park

Manchester City took advantage of Arsenal’s loss at Villa Park earlier today to reduce the gap to two points. 

Emiliano Buendia came on as a substitute in the second half and smashed a late winner to give Aston Villa a 2-1 win over Arsenal. 

The hosts took the lead in the 36th minute as Marry Cash powered a low volley in between David Raya’s legs. 

Leandro Tossard, six minutes into his introduction in the second, equalised from a rebound in the box. 

However, Buendia smashed a loose ball into the roof of the net in the 95th minute – the last kick of the game after a goal-mouth scramble in the box.

Meanwhile, Ruben Dias scored a goal of the month contender while Joskol Gvardiol powered a brilliant header into the back of the net as Manchester City breached Sunderland’s defense twice before the break. 

Phil Foden continued his brilliant run of form as he added the third – his sixth league goal of the season to give Manchester City a 3-0 win. 

Despite losing, Arsenal remain on top of the Premier League with 33 points while Manchester City have 31. 

 

Newcastle United sealed a 2-1 win at home over Burnley to move to the 11th spot on the log. 

Everton swept Nottingham Forest aside in a convincing 3-0 win at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. 

Chelsea remain winless in three Premier League matches as they settled for a stalemate with Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium. 

In the final game of the day, Leeds United cake Back thrice to deal a point in a pulsating 3-3 draw at Elland Road with all six goals scires in the second half.
