Marseille stunned Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday night with a hard-fought 1-0 victory at the Stade Vélodrome, handing the French champions their first Ligue 1 defeat of the season.
The hosts struck early when Moroccan defender Nayef Aguerd rose highest to meet Mason Greenwood’s fifth-minute cross. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier misjudged the delivery, allowing Aguerd’s header to find the net and send the home crowd into raptures.
From then on, Marseille sat deep and absorbed wave after wave of Parisian pressure. Achraf Hakimi forced a strong save from Gerónimo Rulli, while Gonçalo Ramos squandered a headed chance shortly after halftime.
Despite dominating possession, PSG’s attack lacked precision, with Marseille’s defenders throwing themselves in front of every shot and Rulli producing a series of crucial interventions.
The result marked Marseille’s first home league win over PSG since 2011 and snapped the visitors’ unbeaten start to the campaign. It also cost Luis Enrique’s side top spot in the table, with AS Monaco moving ahead on goal difference.
