French forward Kylian Mbappe put up a fantastic performance as Real Madrid breezed past Manchester City to qualify for the second round of the Champions League.
Mbappe bagged his third Champions League hat trick in Real Madrid’s 3-1 win over Pep Guardiola’s men at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday night.
The defending champions came into the match with a 3-2 ad advantage from the first leg and started the second on a brilliant note.
Mbappe scored three minutes into kick off as he latched on to Acensio’s long ball and looped it over Ederson to give the Real Madrid the lead.
Aurelien Tchouameni fed Mbappe with a similar pass but Ederson stopped Mbappe’s shot on goal.
However, the Brazilian goalkeeper couldn’t stop the French forward moments later as he kept his cool in the box before burying the ball into the bottom left corner.
Real Madrid took a two-goal advantage into the first half break as City struggled to create any meaningful attack.
Kylian Mbappe bagged his hat trick on the night just after the hour mark from a brilliant shot from the edge of the box.
Ederson has a busy night in between the sticks as he pulled off a brilliant save to deny his country man, Vinicius Jr from scoring on the 71st minute.
Nico Gonzalez scored Manchester City’s consolation goal in added time of the 90 as he latched on to a a rebound.
Real Madrid beat Manchester City to progress to the round of sixteen 6-3 on aggregate.
