Morocco thrash Mali to keep home-soil glory alive

Morocco’s kept their dream of winning the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations on home turf on as they sealed a place in the last four of the competition.

The Rabat Olympic Stadium was full to the rafters as the home favorite diked out against the Malians on Friday evening.

The Atlas Lionesses lived up to their group stage heroics as they recorded a comfortable win to join the Super Falcons of Nigeria in the semis.

Ibtissam Jraidi put Morocco ahead in the seventh minute with a simple finish to register her third goal of the competition.

The first ended with the Moroccans taking the slender the lead into the break after the video assistant referee ruled out Mali’s equalizer for offside.

Morocco improved on their shots on towards goal in the second half as they sought to close the game with another goal or two.

The Atlas Lionesses won their fourth penalty of the tournament in the 79th minute and Jraidi converted to double the lead.

Substitute Kenza Chapelle came off the bench to seal the win while Aissata Traore pulled a goal back late in the game as the Malians bowed out of the competition.
