Below is how some of the biggest stars in Nigerian fared over the weekend for their respective club sides.
1. Tolu Arokodare
The big striker scored his 20th goal of the season and his 18th in the league in the 4-0 win over Gent as Genk begins the Belgian Jupiler League Championship group on a fantastic note. Despite missing a penalty in the first half, Arokodare got on the scoresheet to help Genk with the win.
2. Rinsola Babajide
The Super Falcons striker had a commendable performance as she scored and provided an assist in Costa Adeje Tenerife’s 4-1 win over Espanyol. Babajide also missed a penalty but scored late in the game to end her club’s five-game winless run.
3. Moses Simon
The Super Eagles forward scored his 8th Ligue 1 goal of the season as Nantes suffered a 3-2 road trip loss to Le Harve on Sunday. Simon played the entirety of the match but couldn’t rescue his side from defeat. Nevertheless, the 29-year-old continues to impress for Les Canaris with eight goals and seven assists in 25 matches.
4. Kelechi Iheanacho
The Super Eagles forward scored his first goal for Middlesbrough after eight attempts. Iheanacho scored the equalizer as Michael Carrick’s men came from behind to beat Oxford United 2-1 at the Riverside Stadium. The win takes Middlesbrough close to grabbing a playoff spot with seven matches left.
5. Victor Boniface
Boniface scored his 8th Bundesliga goal in Bayer Leverkusen thrashed Bochum 3-1 in the German Bundesliga on Friday.
6. Ola Aina
The right-back had an impressive outing once again as Nottingham Forest beat Brighton away from home on penalties to qualify for the FA Cup semi-finals. Aina played 120 minutes and kept Japanese winger Kaoru Mitoma at bay in another fantastic display from the Super Eagles defender.
7. Cyriel Dessers
The Glasgow Rangers striker scored the winner in a 4-3 win over Dundee United. Cyriel Dessers first goal of the watch was ruled for offside but the 30-year-old striker baggedd the winner in added time of the 90 to secure the road win for Rangers. Cyriel Dessers has now scored 18 goals in all competitions this season.
Victor Osimhen, Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey had average performances and were on the losing sides over the weekend. Osimhen featured in Galatasaray’s 2-1 loss to Besiktas while Iwobi and Bassey suffered a disappointing 3-0 home loss to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup last 8.
