Cameroon sporting icon Francis Ngannou has congratulated the Indomitable Lionesses after they were crowned champions of Africa for the first time in history.
Cameroon defeated Malawi 3–0 in Sunday’s 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final in Rabat, Morocco, with Marie Ngah scoring twice and Naomi Ndjoah Eto adding another goal to secure the historic triumph.
The victory ended Cameroon’s long wait for continental glory after the Lionesses had previously finished runners-up in three WAFCON finals.
Following their victory, Ngannou took to social media to celebrate the team, hailing their performance throughout the tournament.
“Champions of Africa! Congratulations to our incredible Indomitable Lionesses!” Ngannou wrote.
“What a tournament from start to finish. Outstanding performances, courage, consistency and determination throughout the entire competition.”
The former UFC heavyweight champion added that the Lionesses had done more than simply win the trophy, insisting that their performances throughout the tournament showed they deserved to be crowned African champions.
“You didn’t just win the trophy, you earned it every step of the way! Cameroon is proud of you!” he added.
Ngannou’s message came as celebrations continued across Cameroon following the historic achievement.
The victory also made Cameroon only the fourth nation to win the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, joining record champions Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea and South Africa.
For the Indomitable Lionesses, the 3–0 victory over Malawi represents the culmination of years of near misses and finally delivers Cameroon its maiden WAFCON crown.
