Nigeria emerged as the undisputed champion of the 14th African Armwrestling Championship, which concluded in Abuja with a commanding display of strength and skill.
Competing on home soil at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Team Nigeria claimed a staggering 28 gold, 35 silver, and 38 bronze medals, finishing atop the overall medal table with a total of 101 medals.
The five-day championship, held from July 23 to 27, brought together over 400 athletes and officials from more than 20 African nations. Despite the stiff competition, Nigeria dominated both the left-hand and right-hand events, much to the delight of the home crowd.
Benin Republic finished in second place with 23 gold, 30 silver, and 11 bronze medals, while Ghana took third with 21 gold, 20 silver, and 9 bronze medals. The performances of both countries were commendable, but Nigeria’s consistency across all categories ensured they remained in a league of their own.
