In their final group game, Nigeria’s Falconets defeated Venezuela 4-0 to qualify for the knockout stages of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
The Nigerian women’s young squad won their last group match of the ongoing 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 4-0 over their Venezuelan opponents.
In their first group match, the Falconets defeated Korea Republic 1-0; however, in their second match, they were crushed by Germany 3-1.
Nigeria 4-0 Venezuela
Amina Bello, Chiamaka Okwuchukwu, Flourish Sabastine, and substitute Joy Igbokwe scored goals on Saturday against Venezuela in Cali to advance two-time silver medalists Nigeria to the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup Round of 16.
In the sixteenth minute, Bello scored the first goal against the South Americans, heading home a cut-back by the unstoppable Okwuchukwu.
In the 28th minute, Okwuchukwu scored the second goal for Nigeria after meeting a corner ball with a bullet header.
In added time of the first half, Okwuchukwu—who had earlier scored Nigeria’s lone goal in their 1-3 loss to Germany on Wednesday night—assisted Flourish Sabastine.
Four minutes into extra time, Joy Igbokwe scored the game’s winning goal, sending the Falconets into the Round of 16.
With the win, Nigeria tied Germany with six points in Group D but are in second place based on goal differential.
The Falconets now have to wait until the group stage is over to find out who they will face in the knockout stage.
