Nigeria’s Super Eagles have dropped one position in the latest men’s world rankings released by the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) on Thursday.
The three-time African champions, previously ranked 43rd, now sit at 44th globally. Despite this minor setback, Nigeria maintains its position as one of Africa’s football powerhouses, continuing to rank ahead of arch-rivals Ghana and South Africa.
The slight decline in the global rankings follows a period of mixed performances, including the Super Eagles’ triumph in the Unity Cup held in London under the guidance of new coach Eric Chelle.
Nigeria remains the fifth-highest-ranked team in Africa, trailing only Morocco (12th), Senegal (18th), Egypt (34th), and Algeria (36th).
Ivory Coast, who recently overtook Nigeria, have now slipped four spots and sit just behind the Super Eagles in the continental standings.
Meanwhile, Nigeria continues to outperform Ghana, ranked 76th, and South Africa, ranked 56th, in the global FIFA rankings.
