Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has downplayed the idea of seeking revenge against Ruben Amorim in the upcoming Premier League clash against Manchester United.
The two managers have a recent history, with Sporting, under Amorim, eliminating Arsenal from the Europa League in 2023.
However, Arteta’s men recently thrashed the Portuguese champions 5-1 in the UEFA Champions League, and on current form, will feel confident of beating anyone.
When asked about seeking payback, Arteta dismissed the notion, saying:
“Not revenge because in football, it’s about another opportunity. It’s going to be very different.”
Arteta noted that their recent match against Sporting was vastly different from their encounter two years ago, adding,
“We played against Sporting last week, which was very different from two years ago. It has no meaning.”
The Gunners are 9 points behind league leaders Liverpool and will hope to continue winning games as they seek to close that gap.
