Rio Ferdinand has delivered a damning verdict on Marcus Rashford’s Manchester United future, insisting that the England international has no way back into the team.
Rashford has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford this January transfer window, having fallen out of favor with manager Ruben Amorim.
The 26-year-old has not played for United since being excluded from the matchday squad against Manchester City last December.
Ferdinand, a former United defender, believes that Amorim’s comments about Rashford’s effort and application have made it impossible for the player to return to the team.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand said: “If I was the player that the manager said that about, my heart, my pride, my ego – it’s an embarrassment.
“For someone to question your application, to question you giving 100 percent for the team, saying you’re lacking effort and taking shortcuts, that is a damning comment.
“There’s no way back for Marcus after that. If he did come back, other players can take their foot off the gas, have a way back into the team, and take shortcuts.”
Ferdinand’s comments suggest that Rashford’s United career is all but over and that a move away from the club is now the most likely outcome.
