Red hot Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has equaled Samuel Eto’o’s record in Serie A after he scored a brace at the weekend against Torino to take his goals for the season to 21.
Osimhen continued his goal scoring form after hitting the net 21 times in 23 games after a comfortable victory away to Torino. Napoli extended their lead on the table to 19 points ahead of second placed Lazio and 23 points ahead of defending champion AC Milan.
The record Osimhen equaled was that of the former Inter Milan legend in the 2010/2011 season which was the most goals scored by an African player in a single season. With just 11 games to the end of the Serie A season, it is looking really likely that Osimhen will not just surpass that record but also set another.
Also, the former Lille striker is on the verge of becoming the all-time top scorer in Serie A. He is just two goals away from dethroning legendary George Weah. Weah held the record for over a decade while playing for AC Milan. The current Liberian President scored 46 goals in 114 games for the Milan side where he also won the Ballon d’Or award in 1995.
Osimhen would not need that much number of games, his two goals shy from smashing the record after 74 games. Both records can be achieved this season if he continues with his current form and stays injury free for rest of the campaign.
Next for Osimhen is the international break where he will play against Guinea Bissau in a Nations Cup Qualifier. He will be expected to help his national team qualify for the next nations cup which will be held in Ivory Coast and it will be expected that he will continue in his scoring form for the Super Eagles.
