Victor Osimhen had quite a difficult game as Galatasaray lost to Besiktas in the Istanbul derby on Saturday evening.
The Super Eagles striker, off the disappointment while on international duty, started the derby but struggled to make an impact.
As expected, the derby lived up to expectations with both teams getting red cards, controversial moments, and three goals scored.
Rafa Silva gave Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s side the lead with a composed finish from the box after a brilliant solo effort.
Galatasaray defender Przemyslaw Frankowski received a red for a rash tackle in the 35th minute after a VAR review.
Despite being down by a man, Galatasaray picked moments to attack Besiktas and grabbed the equalizer just before halftime with a sublime strike from former Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira.
Portuguese midfielder Gedson Fernandes restored Besiktas lead with a shot down the middle of goal in the 66th minute from Joao Mario’s pass.
Galatasaray attempted another equalizer but Besiktas held on to the lead until the blast of the final whistle.
Besiktas’ win reduces Galatasaray’s lead over Fernabache to five points with Jose Mourinho men’s having played a game less.
Galatasaray currently lead the Turkish Super League with 71 points while Fenerbahce are just five points behind with a game less.
