Victor Osimhen is in contention to play for Galatasaray against Besiktas this weekend in the Istanbul derby says a source close to the club.
Osimhen featured and scored in Nigeria’s one-all draw against Zimbabwe in the FIFA World Cup qualifier, but went down voluntarily late in the game before he was taken off.
Rumour has it that the striker suffered an injury which prompted Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle to take him off minutes before Zimbabwe’s equalizer.
However, a Galatasaray insider Yakup Çınar has provided an update on his supposed injury ahead of the crucial clash against Besiktas this weekend in the Turkish Super League.
I have received information that Osimhen and Davinson Sanchez are fit to play in the Beşiktaş-Galatasaray derby,” Çınar said in an interview with Radio Gol, as reported by habersarikirmizi.
“However, the final decision will be made by the medical board. Yunus Akgün is also ready to play in the derby.”
Osimhen has been immense for the Turkish champions with 31 goals in 30 matches across all competitions.
The presence of Osimhen will give Galatasaray the needed confidence as they take on Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s Beşiktaş on Saturday evening.
Galatasaray are in contention to defend the league as they remain on top of the log with 71 points – 9 more than Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbache in second place.
