Pogba has come under fire for his poor performances this season, with former United captain Roy Keane claiming that the midfielder ‘hasn’t done enough’ to warrant a starting role in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s side.
The World Cup winner has been dropped on two occasions this season after he gave away cheap penalties in the defeats to Tottenham and Arsenal in the Premier League.
Solskjaer has also found it difficult to bring the best out of Pogba, with the midfielder struggling to make an impact a midfield diamond or in a deeper role.
And Deschamps believes the 27-year-old is ‘not in his best period’ at United and will be unhappy with how he is being used by Solskjaer.
‘Paul, I know him well and he knows the group well,’ said Deschamps.
‘He is in a situation with his club where he cannot be happy, neither with his playing time, nor with his positioning.
‘He is not in his best period, he has had a series of injuries and the Covid-19 which has hit him quite hard. He needs to find his rhythm.
‘The match he had to make last month was good and consistent despite a lack of pace. However, we cannot say that he is fulfilled in what he does at his club.
‘When a player is in discomfort in his club, obviously, he is happy to play for the France team.
‘He will tell me about his feelings and as I know him very well, it will go in a positive direction. Even if it is also up to him to make all his efforts.’
